I am certainly in favor of this campaign finance reform bill. God bless them.

However, we need more than campaign finance reform. We need structural change to counter the endless left/right tug-of-war supported by special interest money. We need a strong third centrist party. We need to reduce the duration of the campaigns, thus alleviating the need for special interest money. One way is to push back the primaries. Another is to alter the terms. If the terms of representatives were three or four years, they would automatically reduce the proportion of time spent on campaigning. Structural change is what we need.
