Bloomberg: A Centrist Godfather
It appears that Mayor Michael Bloomberg is building a formibable political organization to promote and reflect his politics: Pragmatic, centrist, trans-ideological, influence-free. This organization started with his election in 2001, perfected in 2005 and now is on loan to Joe Lieberman. In 2005 it organized 50,000 volunteers.
There are existing Republican and Democratic organizations but none yet for independents. It involves senior administrators, sophisticated voter analysis including behavioral profiles to indentify likely supporters. And of course it is backed by Bloomberg's considerable personal fortune.
I'm stoked. Finally Centrism may be getting the sophisticated political support it deserves.
With the ranks of independent and moderate voters increasing, it seems that a sophisticated data gathering team could identify and mobilize a sizeable group to influence future elections.
